Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Walkable Labs Limited ("Walkable", "we", "us", or "our") is a company incorporated in Ireland (Company Number 800749), with its registered office at Venture Hub, 136 Capel Street, Dublin 1, D01 T2C9.

We operate the Walkable mobile application, the Walkable Creator Suite web platform, and associated services (collectively the "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal data when you use our Services.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

  • Account data: your email address when you create an account. Sign-in and passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication (Google); we never see or store your password. You can also sign in with Google, which shares your Google account email and basic profile with us.
  • Creator profile: display name, biography, home city, profile photo, and a short description of why you create tours.
  • Tours and user-generated content: the tours and stops you create (titles, descriptions, genre, map stop coordinates) together with the cover images, other images, and audio recordings you upload to the Creator Suite.
  • Waitlist data: name, email address, city, social media or website link, and a short description of your tour idea submitted via our creator waitlist form.
  • Communications: any messages or support requests you send to us.

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Device & technical data: device type, operating system, and app version. We do not track your individual in-app activity for product analytics; anonymous, aggregate website usage is described under Website analytics below.
  • Location data: while a tour is active, the app uses your device's precise location, including while your screen is locked during the tour, so audio plays automatically as you approach each stop. Your location is processed only on your device to trigger audio — it is not transmitted to or stored on Walkable's servers. You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings (tours will then require manual play).
  • Log data: IP address, browser type, and timestamps of requests to our servers.

2.3 Information from third parties

  • Authentication: we use Firebase Authentication and Google Sign-In (both Google) to verify your identity. These may share basic sign-in metadata with us.
  • Cover image suggestions: if you do not upload a cover image, our server may automatically fetch a relevant image from Unsplash on your behalf.

2.4 Website analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics on the Walkable website. It is cookieless: it does not set any cookies, does not use cross-site tracking, and does not collect personal data. The data is aggregated and anonymised (page-view counts, referrer, country-level location, device type) and is used only to understand whether anyone is visiting our marketing pages. See Vercel's analytics privacy notice for details.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and creator profile.
  • Publish, host, and deliver audio tours to users of the Walkable app.
  • Communicate with you about your account, tours, and our Services (including early-access invitations for waitlist members).
  • Review creator waitlist applications, prioritise onboarding, and contact creators about access to the platform.
  • Improve, personalise, and secure our Services.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

For users in the European Economic Area, our legal bases are:

  • Contract: processing necessary to provide the Services you have signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests: improving our Services, preventing fraud, and ensuring platform security.
  • Consent: sending marketing emails (you may withdraw consent at any time).
  • Legal obligation: complying with applicable law.

5. Audio Recordings & Tour Content

Images and audio you upload remain your intellectual property. By uploading content to Walkable, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, distribute, and stream that content to users who access your tour. We do not sell your content to third parties.

If you delete a tour, the associated images and audio files are removed from our storage, except where retention is required for legal record-keeping purposes.

6. Payments

Walkable does not currently charge for tours or process any payments. If we introduce paid tours in future, payments will be handled by Google Play Billing and RevenueCat, and we will update this policy before enabling them.

7. Service Providers & Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We use trusted providers who process data on our behalf under data-protection agreements, and we share data with them only as needed to run the Services:

  • Firebase Authentication & Google Sign-In (Google): account login and identity.
  • Google Maps (Google): displaying maps and your position on your device.
  • Supabase: our database and file storage for accounts, tours, and the images and audio you upload.
  • Firebase Storage (Google): storage for audio you record in the web Creator Suite.
  • Railway: hosting our backend servers.
  • Vercel: hosting our website and providing cookieless analytics.
  • Sentry (when enabled): crash and error diagnostics — such as error details, device model, operating system, and app version — to help us keep the app stable. It is not configured to receive your name or email.
  • Resend: sending account and waitlist emails.
  • Google Sheets (Google): recording creator waitlist submissions.
  • Unsplash: suggesting cover images from your search terms (no personal data is shared).
  • Law enforcement: where required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Walkable, our users, or others.

8. International Data Transfers

We are based in Ireland. Some of the providers listed above process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

9. Data Retention & Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time — in the app under Settings → Delete Account, or from the Creator Suite website. Deleting your account removes your profile and tours; tours that other users have already accessed may be retained in de-identified form. You can also email us to request deletion.

We retain your account and content data for as long as your account is active. After deletion, we remove or anonymise your personal data within 90 days, except where we are required by law to retain it (e.g. financial records for 7 years under Irish law).

10. Your Rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restrict or object to certain types of processing.
  • Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time where consent is the legal basis.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@walkable.travel. We will respond within 30 days.

11. Cookies

When you sign in to the Creator Suite, our website sets one strictly necessary functional cookie (walkable_auth) so we can keep you logged in. We do not use advertising, retargeting, or tracking cookies, and our website analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) is cookieless — no cookies are set for analytics purposes.

For a full breakdown, see our Cookies page.

12. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including HTTPS encryption in transit, reputable cloud providers for storage, and Firebase Authentication for credential management. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Children's Privacy

Our Services are not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area, where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where the changes are material, notify you by email or in-app notice.
